Set up in 2004, the company HELIX GROUP S.R.L. owns one of the first snail farms in Romania, snail farm born from the enthusiasm and wish of two young people to prove that a business as nonconformist for our country, as the snail culture (breeding) may well be successful.

The snail farm expands over 6200 square meters, is populated with Helix Pomatia and is situated 5 km away from Arad, in the locality Sanpaul, on the county route (DJ) 709 Arad-Irato?u. Our snail farm was conceived observing the technology provided by the International Institute for Snail Culture (Breeding) in Cherasco, Italy, the most highly regarded name from the field of snail culture (breeding), having an experience reaching back more than 30 years.

The first step in developing the business was made in 2005, when we accessed SAPARD funds in order to be able to increase the snail culture area from 2000 square meters to 6200 square meters. The next step targeted as a matter of course is the achievement of products derived from snail meat, purpose for which we intend to found a special unit for processing snail meat. In order to reach this target, our company established different contacts with potential investors from abroad, which gives us a reason to hope that we be able to complete the project in the spring of 2007.

We remain open to any discussion or business proposal that may come from Romania or from abroad regarding the marketing and the management of the snail farms, as well as for the purpose of promoting snail meat processed products on the Romanian as well as on the world market. In July, willing to support also other farmers who find themselves during the starting phase of their businesses, we set up the Snail Breeders and Processors from Romania, association which proposes itself to support the development of the snail culture (breeding) in Romania, to consolidate the role played by the farmers from Romania on a European level, taking into account that we occupy the second position in Europe considering the number of snail farms.

To this effect the Association wants to organize meetings between farmers, in order to discuss problems pertaining to the snail culture (breeding), as well as for the purpose of adopting a joint strategy for occupying a best position on the European market in what the products made of snail meat are concerned. Until we have an own site of the Association, you can find all the information linked to the statute, to the meetings, to the conversations on our site, following that, together with the strengthening of the role of the Association, it may be able to follow its own direction.
